Great location in a quiet residential neighborhood. Self-serve breakfast included with a wide variety to choose from. Plenty of books/magazines in the

Quaint bed and breakfast with helpful staff, tasty breakfast, and rooms that are well kept through the years. There is no elevator, so it is helpful for the staff to know if you are bringing heavy bags/would prefer a room on a lower floor, though the hallways and stairwells are wide enough for large suitcases.

Irving House is a converted multi-family home, updated (for the most part) to modern standards. Four floors of rooms plus a tea lounge in the basement. Breakfast is complimentary and comprehensive, with local jams and cheeses, fresh pastries, and more. Air conditioning is present, but fixed for the building; fans are available, and opening a window is viable when the weather is nice outside. No elevator (at least that we found), so remark when booking if mobility is a concern. Wifi is present and complimentary, but a bit weak toward the top floors. Television appears to be basic cable. Room was clean and fresh when we arrived. Bed was comfortable, linens and pillows were ample. Books for leisure reading are available in rooms and throughout the building, like a small home library. Small patio outside for enjoying the neighborhood, as well as an adjoining reading room. Staff are friendly and helpful, and cleaning service is prompt daily. Neighborhood is quiet, and is close to restaurants, Harvard campus, and public transit. Good for visits to campus, and to Cambridge and Boston in general.

When I was looking for a place to stay, this place was advertising for $5/night. This was a total typo on their part and they still ended up honoring the rate. I stayed for two nights and it was clean and peaceful. It does kind of feel like your grandma's home. I would stay again.

sitting room. We always feel at home

when we stay here.

I came to the Irving House completely by accident, and now I'm devastated to be leaving. This is a wonderfully busy little place, perfectly tucked away from the largess of Harvard, while teeming with its own helpful and quirky staff.

Room 314 and its access to the fire escape offers the best bird's eye view of residential Cambridge, and its tidy bathroom and unused but perfect spare Murphy bed quickly became the spot that I wanted to stay in the most. This is an ideal inn, and I'm so happy to have lucked into it.
